Obituary of June E. Spargo

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June Elaine Spargo, age 88, of Pennsville died Monday September 21, 2015 at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Thomas J. (died Jan. 28, 1979) and Anne Cordow Spargo (died July 27, 1978). She leaves behind to cherish her memory her goddaughters, grand-godchildren and many former students and friends. Passionate about education, June earned her BA degree at Montclair State College, her Masters in Education from the University of Delaware and her Doctoral Studies from Temple University. She began her career teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Mannington Township. She worked at Pennsville Schools for 40 years, as Math Supervisor for 30 years, and was an assistant professor at Temple University. She was both a teacher and a mentor to her students and fellow teachers, serving as class advisor, cheerleading advisor and teacher advocate. She was a member and past president of the Supervisors Association, Salem County Education Association, NJ Education Association, National Education Association and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics. She was also past president of the Salem Country Club. In June 1991, she retired to pursue her other passion: travel. Traveling extensively throughout the country and the world, she successfully completed her bucket list. In 2012, June made international travel news when her 63 trips with Vantage Travel earned her the honor of christening their newest cruise ship, River Discovery II, in Amsterdam. As tough as she was compassionate, June influenced the lives of so many. A devoted godmother, a faithful friend and ardent supporter of several community services, she taught, mentored and loved completely and will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make memorial contributions to the Pennsville Memorial High School Scholarship Fund. 110 S. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070.
