Brian Warren Huckoby
Brian Warren Huckoby, the son of the Late Edward Huckoby and Gloria Dean Huckoby, was called home peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2019. An Army veteran, Brian was born in Mannington, NJ, and was raised in Penns Grove, NJ. In his youth Brian excelled in sports, playing football in high school for the Penns Grove Red Devils and is remembered fondly to this day for hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th with two outs advancing his youth baseball team to the championship playoffs. Brian attended Salem Community College and then enlisted in the Army where he served as a Cannon Crewman overseas in Korea and at Fort Sill Oklahoma. Brian was recognized as an expert Marksmen with the M-16 and Hand Grenades. After serving in the military Brian, returned to Penns Grove where he started his family and lived most of his adult life. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Swedesboro and later was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Woodstown. Prior to his failing health, Brian enjoyed fishing along the Delaware River, Chincoteague Va. and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Brian was a gentle giant, a caring person loved by all who knew him, who enjoyed cooking and grilling outside for his family and friends. Brian was quite the coffee connoisseur and enjoyed brewing the perfect cup of coffee including grinding the beans. He loved the art of conversation and welcomed the opportunity to talk on any subject at length with anyone. Brian will be sadly missed and forever cherished by family and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his father; and brother-in-laws, Jimmy L. Gathers Jr., Charles M. Gathers and Ralph E. Roy (Buck). Brian is survived by his mother, Gloria Dean Huckoby; wife, Giselle J. Huckoby; loving and devoted son, Edward Dean Huckoby; sisters, Valerie L. Roy (Buck) and Barbara Locke; brothers, Edward Jr. and Roderick Huckoby; and mother-in-law, Carlene B. Bloxom. Very close to Brian during his failing health were his nieces and great niece, Toria S. Roy-Bell, Joi S. and Torianah Z. Roy. Brian leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will love and cherish his life and memory others who have preceded him in death.
