Obituary of Richard L. Jagers

Richard L. Jagers, b. June 7, 1939, of Pennsville, NJ, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 24, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Scott), daughter, Mary Hoffman (Richard), 2 Grandsons RJ and Raymond, sister Bernice Jagers Willadsen and brother J. Lee Jagers (Sonia). There are 8 nieces and nephews & 17 great nieces & nephews.

Richard graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School in 1957.  He served in the U. S. Navy from 1957 to 1961 and played the trumpet in the Admiral’s Fleet Band serving on the USS Forrestal & USS Saratoga.  From there he went to Rider College and graduated in 1965 with a degree in Accounting.  He had a long career as an accountant at the Du Pont Chambers Works.  As a dedicated and trustworthy volunteer for the Deepwater Federal Credit Union, Richard soon was appointed to the Presidency. He served during the time the Credit Union was relocated from the Plant to its present site.

Richard enjoyed both participating and watching many sports. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.  You could find Richard on the golf course, cycling, running, playing tennis, or bowling.  Other activities he enjoyed were camping, carpentry and lending a helping hand when needed.

Richard will be remembered as a kind and gentle man.  His love for his two favorite girls -- his wife, Betty, of nearly 49 years and his daughter, Mary -- was unending.

As a lighthouse sheds light in the darkness, Richard’s love for Christ shined for all to see, casting out the darkness with love and kindness.

Friends and family are invited for a visitation time on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Sharptown Church, 24 Church Street, Sharptown, NJ from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharptown Church in Richard’s memory.
