Obituary of Charles G. Sponaugle

Charles Guy Sponaugle, 92, died surrounded by family in Salem, NJ on May 29th, 2017. A celebration-of-life cookout will be held in Pennsville, NJ on June 10th, 2017. Guy was born on November 28th, 1924 in Cheat Neck, WV to Pearl Maude and Guy Owhmer Sponaugle. When Guy was 12 he moved to Morgantown, WV where he would meet his future wife, Edna Jean Miles. They celebrated 71 years of marriage on March 9th, 2017. In 1942, Guy joined the Navy as a Sonar Technician which took him around the world during the height of WWII. He served his time in North Africa, Europe and the Pacific aboard the USS Marsh (DE-699). He was honorably discharged from the military in December 1945. Guy moved with his family to Pedricktown, NJ in the 50's where he worked at Chrysler until retirement. He spent retirement toying around in his workshop, playing horses at the racetrack, enjoying TCM movies, watching tennis, rooting for the Steelers and the West Virginia Mountaineers, drinking copious amounts of root beer and listening to his favorite big band musicians Bing Crosby and Doris Day. Guy had the kind of laugh that spread like wildfire and a sense of humor for the books. He always knew how to make the best out of any situation. His charming character will be sorely missed. Guy is survived by his wife, Edna Jean Sponaugle; son, Jerry Sponaugle; daughter-in-laws, Kim Sponaugle and Sandra Sponaugle; and grandchildren, Josh Sponaugle and Brittani Sponaugle. He was preceded in death by his son, Guy Allen Sponaugle.
