Elwood "Woody" Hardy Jones, age 84, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016. He was born in Pulaski, Virginia on February 1, 1932 to Rose Mae Ferris Jones and Eldridge Jones. Woody moved to New Jersey with his parents and five brothers (Eldridge Jr. "Joe", Doug, Charlie, Preston, and Bobby) when he was eleven years old. He was a 1950 graduate of Salem High School. Woody is predeceased by his first wife, Sylvia (Waugh). Woody and Sylvia had five wonderful children: Mark, Vance, Terresa, Forest and Victoria. After Sylvia's passing, Woody remarried Helen Brady McCracken who also had five children: Linda, Debra, Jody, Sharon, and Pamela. Woody and Helen were married for 31 years. Woody treasured his family and was very proud of the 10 children he and Helen raised. He was loved and well-taken care of by his wife, his 10 children and their spouses, 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren (with 3 more on the way). Woody joined the Navy at 18 years old. He was sent to Korea when the war started and was there when it ended. He later worked for the DuPont Co. at the Chambers Works and retired after 35 years of service. He loved "Holly Tree Farm", the home he shared with Helen, Mark and Debbie, and their children and grandchild. He had beautiful gardens, planted several fruit and Christmas trees on the property, enjoyed raising chickens, and taught a goose how to fly. He excelled in baseball in his younger years and enjoyed watching all sports. He was an avid fan of thoroughbred horse racing and spent many days at Delaware Park. He loved going to the casinos and traveling with Helen. At the request of the family, funeral services will be private. www.laughreyfuneralhome.com
