A cousin is your first best friend as a kid. He is someone who is always there for you no matter what the circumstances, but can also argue with you until the sun goes down. Jason was only 6 months older than me, so he was my first cousin best friend. As I think back on childhood memories, I think of him. He was at all my birthday parties, even though I am sure he'd rather not be at a "girl" party. I remember trips to the Sportsman's Club to swim, going out on Uncle Adam and Aunt Michelle's boat, and building tree forts even though I couldn't climb the tree. Jason even tried to teach me how to shoot a bow and arrow, I don't remember the lesson going very well.
As we grew up our lives took different paths. He enlisted in the Army and was so proud to serve our country, and I was proud of him. As adults we would only see each other on special occasions and holidays, but our love for each other never changed. I could still count on him for the type of bear hug that almost crushed me, or to just sit and have a long chat about where we were in life.
I am so blessed to have had Jason be such a huge part of my life. Growing up would have been a completely different experience if he wasn't there with me. He taught me how to hang with the boys, but was still aware that I was a sensitive girl. He never treated me like I was a nuisance, he treated me like his friend. I will miss you more than you know, Jason. But I will do my best to live life to the fullest each day and remember you always!
