Obituary of Joseph L. Lawless

Joseph Lawless, 79, of Pennsville, passed away at home surrounded by his devoted family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judi (Marquette); his mother Blanche; daughters Kara Gibson (Tony) and Anne-Marie Lawless of Pennsville, Beth Gartenmayer (Adam) of Marlton, and Janine Hellings (Jeff) of Overland Park, Kansas. Joe was the proud grandfather of Riannon Gibson, Colin Joseph Gibson, Alyssa Friedman, Michael Friedman, Jake Gartenmayer and Mia Hellings. He is survived by several nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins. Also, predeceased by his father Leonard Lawless; sister Theresa Neicen and her husband Ed. Joe was raised in Carney's Point, NJ where he attended St. James Grammar school and graduated from Pennsgrove High School in 1953. Additionally, he graduated from Potomac State College of West Virginia University and then served in the U.S. military where he was stationed in Germany for two years. Joe worked as a Supervisor at ICI Americas Inc., in New Castle DE for 34 years and retired in 1994. He was a member of Queen of Apostles Church and most importantly he was a devoted family man and a good friend to many. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and he never missed their activities or sporting events. He was an avid craftsman and landscaper.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM on Friday Nov. 21, at the Queen of the Apostles RC Church where friends may call from 9:00 to 10:00 AM prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown. www.laughreyfuneralhome.com
