John Wesley Banger, Jr., age 84, of Pennsville passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Salem, New Jersey. John (Jack) was the son of the late John Wesley Banger, Sr. and Lena Prinsen Banger of Pennsville. He is survived by his wife (of 63 years), Viola (McLaren) Banger, and four sons, John Wesley Banger, III of Alabama, James D. Banger of Pilesgrove, Jerry Lee Banger of Pennsville, and Jason S. Banger, of Georgia; seven grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, sisters, Edna Norris, and Ruth Bailey . Predeceased by a brother George Banger, and a sister, Jean Johnson. He was employed by the DuPont Chambers Works, Deepwater, and retired in 1995 following 32 years service. He joined the Navy and served four years aboard the Ship, USS Shields during the Korean Conflict. His strict work ethic served him well and his belief that he should give back to others brought about his lifelong (25 years) volunteer service with the Pennsville Fire & Rescue Company No. 1. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday October 21, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends may call Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial will be at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
