Sara Patricia Saunderlin Polk, age 62 years, of Pennsville, NJ, died early Friday morning, September 19, 2014, after a two-year battle with cancer. Sara was born on December 22, 1951, in Pennsville, NJ, to parents Robert E. Saunderlin (now deceased) and Belva Jean Saunderlin (nee Price). She attended Pennsville Memorial High School and Glassboro State College, where she majored in Music Education. Sara went on to share her passion for music with "her kids" at Mannington School District, Park Bible Academy, and Pennsville School District. Sara discovered a love of the dramatic arts while performing with her family in Oakwood Summer Theatre. She directed many children's musicals for OST, as well as for Pennsville Memorial High School and the elementary schools. A gifted musician, she played the organ for many years at First Baptist Church of Pennsgrove, Ambassador Baptist Church in Pennsville, and Aldine United Methodist Church in Elmer. Known for her long, blonde pigtails, her overalls and tie-dyed shirts, and her infectious smile, Sara will always be remembered as a beloved friend, teacher, mother, Grammy and wife. Sara is survived by her husband, Roland A. Polk Jr., her children, Seth Polk, Rebecca Delaney, Rachel Messick, and Enoch Polk, her eight grandchildren, her mother, Belva Jean Saunderlin, and her sister, Mary Gallagher. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Aldine United Methodist Church, 780 Friesburg Aldine Rd, Elmer, NJ 08318, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:00am. Sara's ashes will be buried in the church cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Aldine United Methodist Church Music Ministry. The family would like to thank their brothers and sisters in Christ for their love, support and service through Sara's difficult battle. We are comforted to know that Sara is with her Heavenly Father and the loved ones who have gone before her.
