Obituary of Danny J. Edwards

Danny J. Edwards, Sr. (Lucky) 73, of Pennsville, NJ went home to be with Jesus on July 12, 2014. Danny was born in Farmville, VA, where he was raised by his loving parents John and Grace Edwards. An avid sports fan, Danny excelled as an athlete, lettering in both baseball and basketball. After high school, Danny served his country from 1964 to 1969, when he was discharged with honors from the Army. Later in life, Danny learned how to play golf and enjoyed spending his free time with friends on the links and playing cards in the clubhouse. Danny loved quiet walks by the river with his beloved dogs Lady and Rusty but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family and friends, including spirited fireside conversations about current events, history, politics and religion. He worked for ICI Specialty Chemicals for 32 years. His favorite MLB team was the Phillies. Predeceased by his parents John and Grace, his biological father Alman Mottley and biological mother Pat Jones, his brother Wayne Mottley and sister Rebecca Zirkle Thomas. Survived by his brother Donald Edwards, son Danny J. Edwards, Jr. and wife Melinda Cann, daughter Amber Beatty and husband Thomas Hearn, and 5 grandchildren - Kyle Cann, Madison Hearn, Thomas Hearn, Grace Hearn and Jack Hearn. Funeral services will be held 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ, where friends may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at the Westview Cemetery, in Farmville, VA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Danny's name to the local SPCA.
