Obituary of Anna M. Zappala

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna M. Zappala was called by the Lord on May 17th after courageously battling a long illness for over two years. Anna was born in the small coal mining town of Central City, PA. Upon HS graduation she moved to Southern New Jersey to work as a secretary for DuPont. Shortly thereafter, Anna married Joseph Zappala and they had three children: John Zappala of Millville, NJ, Michael Zappala of Woodstown, NJ, and David Zappala of Pittsburgh, PA. With the demands of raising three children, Anna stopped working and focused on her family. She spent this portion of her life as a homemaker. Anna was known for her antique collection, decorating her home, throwing well planned holiday parties and family gatherings. She enjoyed cooking/baking, needlepoint, "antiquing", and finding deals at her beloved Cowtown. Anna's other interests were painting, quilt collecting, canning, the theater, pinochle, Bluegrass/Country music, and bowling. She also enjoyed trips to the beach, Europe, Williamsburg, VA, Amish Country to list a few of her fond destinations. She was completely devoted to her family. As her mother became ill, Anna lovingly and selflessly took care of her until her death. Even in the last chapter of her life when she herself was not well, Anna took care of her ailing husband. Anna often put family and friends ahead of herself and for this reason will be sorely missed by many. Her personality was kind, resolute, courageous, and made friends easily. Anna was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Catherine Mekis, her brothers John and Donald Mekis. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lannarone of Gainesville, GA. She is also survived by her three children, John, Michael, and David Zappala. Finally, she is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph Zappala. Services will be private. www.laughreyfuneralhome.com
