Obituary of Calbert E. Welliver

Calbert E. Welliver, age 91 of Pennsville died Sunday October 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Hazleton, PA and was the son of the late Calbert S. and Mary Leona Miller Welliver. Cal was a longtime Pennsville resident. He was a graduate of Hazleton H.S. followed by Gettysburg College and Columbia University where he received his masters degree. In 1956 he moved to Pennsville where he taught at the high school and coached basketball. He was Superintendent of the Pennsville School District from 1962 to 1984 and retired that year following 28 years. Cal was a 32 Degree Mason of the Penns Grove Masonic Lodge, member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a former member of Pennsville Rotary, and a WWII Army air corps Veteran. Survived by his daughters, Jane M. Tubertini (Ken) of Ormond Beach, Fl, Susan L. Gallagher (Bob), Rachael Olcott (Brad) of Pennsville, grandchildren, Amy Land (Devon), Mya and Dylan Tubertini, Karin Wood (Ryan), Kim Gallagher, Beth Hoyt (Justin) and Dana Olcott, great grandchildren, Kaiden, and Morgan Land, Callie, Ryane, Luke and Marley Wood, Cara and Kendall Hoyt. Also survived by Maria Puga (Jaime) and Miguel Puga, Maria, and Pablo of Ecuador South America. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Jane Cook Welliver (2007), brother, Robert Welliver. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday October 25, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
