Nicole was, to put it simply, a genius, the likes of which I have never seen before. Everyone who was blessed with the opportunity to share a class with her knew it, too. We all knew that she was the best of us. The genius. The one we turned to when we needed help.
I was blessed to know Nicole on a more personal level. We met our Lit Studies class, the one class we shared. Even though we only knew each other for a semester, we became friends very quickly. It only took a few weeks for our professor to mistake us as twins. She was a kind, witty, brilliant individual.
She loved pokémon. The last time I spoke to her, she was trying to get me to start playing. She had just caught a shiny and was ridiculously proud of herself. It was wonderful to watch, actually. It was nice to know that someone as brilliant as her also got wrapped up in fantasy worlds from time to time.
She had a 3D puzzle that doubled as an eraser and loved to play around with it. One week in class, when we were studying Electra, she let me play with it, and kept laughing when I got it wrong. Eventually, our professor saw us and took it from us, but he was so tickled by her reactions to my failures that he decided to try and put it together himself. We laughed even harder when he failed to put it together as well.
Speaking of which, it’s worth noting that Nicole had a way of making everyone around her love to be with her. She had a certain charm to her, some wonderful mix of wit, intelligence, and imagination that was irresistible. She became good friends with her professors just by speaking up in class. She met the dean at a campus event and was working for her a week later. She made her classmates laugh before and after every class with her wry comments about the reading material. And most importantly to me, she made the new girl feel welcome on that wonderful day I asked if I could sit with her.
There is so much left to be said for Nicole, and I feel that no amount of words will ever do her justice. She was amazing, she was gifted, she was ahead of her time, and she was my friend. She could have gone on to do anything. Nothing would have stopped her, and no one would have wanted to.
I miss you, Nicole. Until we meet again.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for I too know the pain of losing someone you love. May your family find comfort as I have in knowing that our loving heavenly Father promises us that very soon he will 'swallow up death forever, and certainly wipe the tears from all faces.' (Isaiah 25:8) What a wonderful day that will be!

Hey Girl! So, I know I was one of your newer friends, but believe me when I tell you, you are one of my best. So ya know how we were talking about how I needed to blow Zach's presentation out of the water ? Well, I presented it on the day after I heard about your passing and trust me I blew it out of the water for ya girl! Even dedicated it to you. I give you my word, I will always carry your memory with me. Love ya Nicole!

Nicole, You were the puzzle piece He chose first out of the box because you were the important one - a foundation fragment of His masterpiece. When we meet again, I can't wait to see what kind of picture we will make together.

Nicole was truely a great person, a perfect friend, and a really remarkable person! I'm going to miss coming into work and seeing her smiling face! She was the best person to talk to, whenever something was going on w/me she could tell, and she would call me over, ask me what's wrong, and help me out the best she could! I was asked to choose one of my friends to write a letter about me, I choose her. In the last sentence she wrote I was a good person, I started out as her co-worker, and quickly became friends! I was honored that she considered me a good person, she earned my respect and my friendship. It's so sad that she departed this world way to soon, but I guess God needed an angel more then I needed a friend. My heart and prayers go out to her family! R.I.P. Nicole, your friendship meant everything to me! May God be with your family thru this very trying and difficult time! <3 <3 <3

If by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
This was read at Ayn Rand, one of Nichole's favorite authors, funeral. Nichole was a person this poem described. Definitely a great young woman. She'll be missed.

I'm shocked. Nichole was a fellow transfer English major at Rowan that I have crazy respect for. I only knew her a short time from British Lit class this semester, but God, I'll miss the discussions and joking before our class. She was good people and a brilliant mind. I'll have to pick up some Ayn Rand and read it in your memory. Rest in peace, and condolences to the family. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nicole this semester when she attended her first Habitat for Humanity meeting at Rowan University. She approached me at the meeting and was warm, friendly, and took a genuine interest in helping others through our organization. My deepest condolences to the Halstead family, it is truly a tragedy that she was taken from this earth so soon.
