William F. Peterson, Jr., 91, of Carneys Point, passed away on February 2, 2013 at Merion Gardens, Carneys Point, NJ. Born in Woodstown on November 16, 1921, Bill was the son of the late William and Gertrude Peterson. Bill was a lifelong Salem County Resident, living in Pennsville for many years, Quinton for seven years and Carneys Point for the past six months. Bill worked thirty-eight years for Atlantic City Electric, beginning work as a helper and ending his career as the Assistant Superintendent of the Deepwater Generating Station. Bill was an honored veteran of World War II. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in the 88th Division. While fighting in Italy, he was wounded in his arm and head, captured by the Germans, and was transported to Germany where he was detained as a prisoner of war for seven and a half months. For his service, he was honored with medals that include a purple heart with oak leaf clusters and two bronze stars. Bill faithfully served the Saint George's Episcopal Church for sixty-one years as an usher. He also served his community as a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years. Bill was an active member of the Senior Circle and a member of the Quinton Sportsmen Club. Bill was also an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and the Phillies. Beloved husband of Alice M. Peterson for sixty-one years, Bill cared for Alice during the years of her declining health until her death in 2003. His daughters, Beverly Dolbow and Christina Bollinger and his grandson, Scott Agnew, brother, Lawrence "Pete" Peterson also preceded Bill in death. Bill is survived by his daughters; Constance J. Newton and her husband, William of Pennsville and Donna M. Agnew and her husband, Tom of Mullica Hill, sisters, Doris Matlack and husband Rupert of Woodstown and Emma McCay of Bristol, PA, four grandchildren; Kimberly Newton, William Newton, Alysia Paparo, and Matthew Bollinger and six great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his partner of eight years, Emily Guth. Bill had many friends throughout his lifetime and his legacy is one of dedication, faith, honor, laughter, and love. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the LAUGHERY FUNERAL HOME, 1 North Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, 305 North Broadway, Pennsville, NJ where Bill will be buried.
