Phillip Roger Schermerhorn, age 74 of Quinton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 28, 2012 at his residence. Born in Salem he was the son of the late Glenn and Laura Rose Schermerhorn. He lived in Pennsville for 52 years before moving to Quinton Township where he resided for the past 22 years. Phillip was a 1956 graduate of Salem High School and his favorite subject was football. Following high school graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he also played football He was employed at the DuPont Chambers Works for 35+ years. He was a member of the NRA, and the Quinton Sportmens Club. Phillip was also an active attendee of the Quinton Baptist Church. Survived by his wife Edna Smith Schermerhorn who were married October 30, 1965 and would have celebrated 47 years of marriage this year. Also survived by a son, William and his wife Megan Haaf Schermerhorn of Woodstown, grandsons, Jeffrey and Jacob who were the light of his life, brother, David Schermerhorn and a sister, Judy Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday August 31 at the Laughrey Funeral Home Pennsville where friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial will be at the Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 390 N. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070 or the Quinton Baptist Church, 46 Main St Quinton, NJ 08072.
