James K. Gallagher of Pennsville, NJ passed away August 23, 2012 quietly at home with his family at his side. He was born in Tamaqua, PA February, 14, 1933. He is predeceased by his Mother, Bessie K. Roberts and Stepfather William H. Roberts, Sr. Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth T. of 54 years and children Nancy Leah and husband H. Daniel Kowanick of Pennsville and James M. Gallagher of Somer's Point, NJ. Also, his cherished grandchildren Steven James and Jacob Adam Szymanski of Pennsville, Holly M. Short and husband Jeff and Keith A. Kowanick of Angier, NC. Step grandchildren are Tyler, Dylan, Weston, Keith, Jr., and Liam all of NC. He also leaves behind a cherished brother Wm. H. Roberts, Jr. and wife Maureen of Chadds Ford, PA and sister in law Leah Hawthorne of Northfield, NJ and many loved nieces and nephews. James graduated from Salem High School in 1950 where he played football, baseball, and attended Boy's State. He was a US Navy veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. James was a member of the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose. He was a lifetime member of Friends of the Pennsville Library and Pennsville Historical Society. He also coached Pennsville Babe Ruth Baseball. James loved baseball and his Philadelphia Phillies. He served Pennsville Township as a Committeeman and Mayor and Salem County as a Freeholder. He was Chairperson of the 2nd Septemberfest Celebration and served on the Committee for many years. He worked for DuPont Chambers Works and Edgemoor Plant retiring after 38 years of service. Funeral services will be held11:00 AM on Tuesday August 28 at the St. Ambrose Lutheran Church, Pennsville. Friends may call Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville. Burial will be at the Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.
