Obituary of James M. Sampson, Jr.

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Meredith Sampson Jr., affectionately known as "Jim" by his friends and family, age 69 of Pennsville, succumbed on December 2 to cancer, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 19, 1941 in Salem NJ, the only child of James Sr. and Mary Beatty Sampson. A lifelong Salem County resident, Jim graduated from Salem High School in 1960, where he helped break the team relay mile state record in 1956. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy as an aviation storekeeper. He was a plankholder of the aircraft carrier Constellation, and he served aboard the Enterprise, the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A man of diverse interests, he was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, enjoyed drum and bugle corps, and was a proud member and past president of the Salem County Sportsmen's Club. He was an active supporter of the Pennsville Marching Band throughout the 1980's. Jim worked for both DuPont and Shell Chemical companies, but ultimately made his career at the Salem Post Office as a Letter Carrier for 28 years. He is survived by Margie Kuebler Sampson, his true love and devoted wife of 48 years. His heart beat faster when she entered the room and saddened a little when she left. He also leaves his daughters and sons-in-law Tracy and Jeff Bozarth of Pennington, NJ, and Jill and Ken Drake of Flemington, NJ. Three of his greatest joys were his cherished grandchildren Steven Bozarth, Michael Bozarth and Karen Drake. He will be remembered for all the love and laughter he brought to his family and friends throughout his life. His family admired and loved him and he will live forever in their hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Paws for People P. O. Box 9955 Newark, DE 19714 or the Visiting Nurses Association of Pennsville 14 North Broadway. Friends may call at the Sampson residence to celebrate his life on Sunday Dec 5th from 2 to 6PM.
