Joan Marie (Simpkins) Berge, age 69, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2012 at Christiana Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born on November 25, 1942 and raised in Bridgeton, NJ she worked as a secretary for the Salem Board of Education for 25 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband Lou. She loved the ocean and was happiest with a book in her hands and her toes in the sand. However, she most enjoyed spending time with family and close friends whom she always supported with practical advice and a loving heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Rhodella Simpkins of Bridgeton. She is survived by her husband of 29 years Lou Berge Sr.; brothers Sonny Simpkins; Jack Simpkins & wife Kelly; children Don Vanderslice & wife Becky; Eric Vanderslice; Todd Vanderslice; Lou Berge Jr. & wife Lori; Danette Ridgway & husband Tom; Lorraine Flickinger & husband Bill; grandchildren Aimee, Ashley, Chase, Renee, Skylar and Brooke. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Laughrey Funeral Home at One North Broadway, Pennsville, NJ on Friday June 29 from 6:00-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center 13 Reads Way Room 203 New Castle, DE 19720 or the charity of your choice.
