Obituary of John H. Gallagher, Sr.

John H. Gallagher, Sr. age 92 of Pennsville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at the Golden Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Mannington. He was born in Carney's Point and was the son of the late Edward Sr. and Sara Jess Gallagher. John was a 1936 graduate of Penns Grove High School and a lifelong resident of Salem County. He was employed as an operator at the DuPont Chambers Works where he retired in 1977 following over 30 years service. He was WWII Army Veteran and a member of the Queen of the Apostles Chruch, Pennsville. He was one of the original founders of the Pennsville Little League. and worked part time for the Pennsville Recreation Department following his retirement from DuPonts. John was an avid Phillies fan, member of the Knights of Columbus and loved his family dearly. Survived by his sons, Bill Gallagher and his wife Eloise of Raleigh, NC, John H. Gallagher, Jr. and his wife Linda and Bob Gallagher and his wife Susan of Pennsville, 6 granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren Predeceased by his wife of 70 years Margaret Ann Fortino Gallagher (2010), brother, William Gallagher, sister, Virginia Moore, and a granddaughter Rene' Gallagher. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 Friday at the Queen of the Apostles Church, Pennsville where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contribution to the Caring Hospice, 133-Q Gaither Drive, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054.
