Obituary of Francis W. Bobb, Sr.

Francis W. "Pop" Bobb, Sr., age 89 of Carney's Point died Thursday, December 22nd, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County. He was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania to the late Willard and Arabella Kurtstetter Bobb on July 28th, 1922. Predeceased by his wife, Hilda J. Bobb (nee Pierce) and brothers, Ernie and Marlin Bobb, he is survived by his son, Francis W. Bobb, Jr. and his wife Andrea of Pennsville, his daughter, Linda G. Hope and her husband John of Newark, DE, grandchildren, Patricia Trimble, Autumn Bobb and Kevin Bobb, and great grandchildren, Courtney and Mallory Trimble. Francis served in the Army Air Force in WWII, worked at DuPont Chamber Works for 34 years until finally retiring in 1982 and helped out for 40 years with baseball in Pennsville. He was a former Little League coach and volunteer for Pennsville, starting his coaching in 1971. The town recognized him for all of his hard work and dedication and started a baseball tournament in his name; the "Pop" Bobb Baseball Tournament, which has been held every April since 1996. In 2009, the "Pop" Bobb Baseball Scholarship was started to award $500 to the senior MVP of the Pennsville Memorial High School baseball team. It was "Pop's" wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the "Pop" Bobb Memorial Baseball Scholarship, in care of Autumn and Kevin Bobb. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29th at the Laughery Funeral Home in Pennsville, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
