Obituary of Cheryl L. Brown
Please share a memory of Cheryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cheryl Lynn MacAllister Brown passed away at her home in Pennsville, New Jersey on December 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Cheryl was born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 31, 1947. At that time, her parents, Zoe Elizabeth (Gary) and Paul W. MacAllister, Sr., had to wait for the Pennsville-New Castle Ferry so they could make the trip to Wilmington General Hospital for her delivery. She grew up on Union St. in Pennsville and enjoyed a loving childhood there with her family and friends.
After graduating from Pennsville Memorial High School in 1965, she was employed by the Hercules Corporation for three years. Cheryl was married to the love of her life, Gary Brown, at Church of Our Merciful Savior by Father Stone in 1967. The following year, her family began to grow. First came daughter, Kelli Theresa, followed by Clinton Garrison Brown. Cheryl cherished her life as a stay-at-home mother.
Cheryl not only provided care for her family and managed the household in general, but she also loved gardening, working in her yard and beautifying their home on Harvard Road. Under her direction, the backyard was cleared and expanded as it became a recreation area for the entire family. It was truly a labor of love for Cheryl.
When the children got a little older, Cheryl attended Salem Community College and began her career as a cosmetologist. She became the manager at Holiday Hair Salon at the Ames Shopping Center in Pennsville. She enjoyed leading her team of hairstylists as they provided entertainment and service to the community. "Best job ever!" Later, she continued her career by contributing her services to the Salem County Nursing Home. In 2005, Cheryl dedicated herself to staying at home and raising grandchildren for many years.
Cheryl's other great passions included planning vacations and traveling. She especially enjoyed booking trips with the large cruise lines and touring the Caribbean. She made yearly trips to Aruba with the family and also took adventurous Windjammer cruises to the small, remote islands of the Grenadines. Snorkeling, sightseeing and enjoying libations were all part of the adventure. For many years, during the summer months, Ocean City, NJ was also one of her favorite destinations for the family.
Cheryl is remembered as the strong but peaceful heart of her family and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest in Peace.
Special thanks go out to the following folks: John and Ann Doran, Michael Carfiello for their daily support. Family: Zoe Ann, Clint and Megan, Chip and Sandy, Alec and Andie. Our neighbors Tyler and Megan for their support (and food)! Debra Ann and Anitra for listening and providing valuable input. Heartland Hospice, Donna, Denice, they are truly professionals. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents Betty and Paul MacAllister, Sr. and her brother Paul (Whitey) MacAllister, Jr. and his wife Nadja (Wolosewicz).
Surviving family members are her loving husband of 57 years Gary, daughter Kelli and her children Andie and Alec Labb. Son Clinton Brown (Megan) and children Finn and Reid. Brother Timothy (Kim) and children Michelle and Matthew. Sister Zoe Ann Crawford (Jack) and their children Amy, Mandi and Erin (Aaron Leonard).
