Doris will be sorely missed by my family. My mother was from the other Elliott family in Pennsville, and Doris and her were lifelong friends. Doris and Cholly even went with mom and dad on their honeymoon to Niagara Falls. I always looked forward to Christmas Eve and seeing Cholly and Doris when they visited our house. They also visited other close friends and she told me a few times that Christmas Eve was one of her favorite days of the year.
Doris was intelligent, efficient and a well respected employee, as both a librarian and a bank employee. Her excellent reference helped me obtain my first job after college, as a Bank Manager, for her bank, City National Bank at the Carneys Point branch.
After my mother passed away, at age 89, Doris told me she was taking on the role as my surrogate mother. I am extremely happy to have known Doris, and I hope I have some of the cognitive power that she had up to her 99th year.
Since Doris was an avid reader, my family will be contributing money to the Pennsville Public Library in her name. For years I looked forward to seeing her at the old library when I was a kid.
