Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pastor Betty Sherrick, 80, of Pennsville, NJ went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2024 at 3:15 am. Betty Sherrick was born in Swedesboro, NJ on November 29, 1943 to Evelyn Sessoms and Melvin Phelps. She graduated from Pennsville High School where she was a majorette and named, "best dancer" of her class. Betty attended the First Assembly of God in Pennsville, NJ where she received Jesus as her personal savior and the Holy Spirit at the age of 16. Evangelist Brother Christy prophesied over her at a young age that she would be in ministry. Betty was employed for the DuPont family before marrying the love of her life, Earl Sherrick. They were wed on June 15, 1963. She and Earl moved to Lakeland, Florida where Earl attended Southeastern Bible college. Betty worked hard to help her husband through college. When Earl's professor once graded his paper, he wrote, "Your wife does nice work". Post college, they pastored at many Assembly of God churches where Betty served as an organist, children's minister, and administrator of each church. Their first church was in West Virginia and from there they moved to Brockton, Massachusetts where they adopted their daughter Julee in November of 1968. They pastored Assembly of God churches in Joplin, MO, Newark, CA and Covington, TN respectively. Their Covington, TN pastorate brought a surprise conception. Their son Jason was born on September 13, 1976 after the doctors told Betty that she could not have children. In 1977, Pastors Earl and Betty founded an independent church, "Christian Life Center" in Pennsville, NJ. Betty was ordained by Bishop Benson Idahosa and has Co-pastored Christian Life Center alongside her love, Earl the entirety of their pastoral years. She implemented a yearly Women's Conference in Lancaster, PA and also shared the vision of the Christmas Open House at CLC that served 18,000 people in its last year of operation. Pastor Betty also served on the Board of Directors of Jerry Savelle Ministries, International along with Pastor Earl. Pastor Betty sang with her sister Carolyn in church at times, she was a prayer warrior, china painter, southern style cook, decorator, artist, and homemaker. She loved Christmas, snow, dolls, Southern gospel music and most of all her grandchildren. A nurturing mother and grandmother, a wonderful wife and a devoted Pastor. Betty is predeceased by her parents Evelyn (Sessoms) Jordan, Step father Ralph Jordan and Father Melvin Phelps, sister, Dorothy McKie, her son Jason Sherrick, and her daughter-in-love Jaime Sherrick.
