Karen Joy McMackin went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Saturday morning, 7/27/24, after being in ill health for the past few months. She was the widow of the late William H. McMackin after 41 years of marriage, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Walter E. Magill and Grace D. (Potter) Magill. She is survived by her three children: Karen M. Johnson (Ed), Kenneth R. McMackin (Kristin), and William J. McMackin (Aimee); she is also survived by nine grandchildren: Mackenzie Johnson, Journeyy Johnson, Kaelin McMackin, Aidan McMackin, Liam McMackin, Andrew McMackin, Victoria McMackin, Joseph McMackin, and Karleigh McMackin. Karen is also survived by a sister, Kathy M. O'Hara, and two brothers: David W. Magill (Trish) and Walter E. Magill, Jr. (Diane).
Karen, or Joy, as most who knew her called her, graduated from Pennsville Memorial High School in 1971, and from Oral Roberts University in 1975 with a degree in elementary education. She married Bill in 1977, and after her children were in school, she taught at the Bethany Christian School in Woodstown for ten years. She and her husband lived in Alloway for most of their life together and were members of Penns Grove Assembly of God, and then Aldine United Methodist Church for a number of years. She and Bill later moved to Carneys Point Senior Apartments on S. DuPont Rd.
Since Joy became a widow, she recently moved to Lower Alloway's Creek, and began attending First Wesleyan Church in Bridgeton with her sister. She became a member of the church, and was very faithful in attending Sunday School, Sunday worship, and Wednesday morning Bible Study. She also joined the choir. She always had a love of music. In fact, when she was in high school, she was one of three female sousaphone/tuba players in the marching band!
There will be a memorial service at First Wesleyan Church on 200 Laurel Heights Drive in Bridgeton on Saturday, August 3rd at 11 am, with visitation starting at 10 am. A luncheon will follow the service. Graveside service and burial will be private.
