Wilma Martinides (Plemmons), age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24th on the 54th anniversary of her marriage to the love of her life, Anthony Martinides. Wilma was born in Hot Springs, N.C. on November 16, 1934, to the late Joseph & Sophie (Massey) Plemmons. She moved to the Salem County area and was previously employed by Anchor Hockings Glass. Wilma spent more than 25 years as a home health aide, tirelessly caring for those in need with empathy and kindness.
Wilma never met a stranger, effortlessly engaging in conversations and making everyone feel welcomed. She enjoyed traveling and loved the beach, yet her greatest happiness came from creating cherished memories with her beloved family. Wilma attended the Pennsville Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years, and she had a deep and unwavering love for Jesus Christ, which illuminated every aspect of her life.
In addition to her loving husband, Anthony, she is survived by her brothers, Von (Linda) Plemmons, Don Plemmons, and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Plemmons and Ursula Martinides. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a cherished place in her heart, their bond a testament to the love and warmth she shared with her family. Wilma was like a second Mom, always known as "Nanny" to her nieces, Kimberly (Gary) Lockwood and Terri (Charles) Cobb, offering guidance, love and unwavering support over the years. Her absence will be deeply felt and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Ed & Ted Plemmons, sisters Bertha Raines and Agnes Poland Hite, niece Terri Cobb, sisters-in-law Janet & Mamie Plemmons, and Joyce Lucus, brother-in-law, Richard Martinides and her treasured companion and furbaby, Buffy.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Woolwich Gardens and of NJ Health and Hospice, especially Kathy, who offered Wilma and the family comfort and care during her final days.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2023 at Laughrey's Funeral Home, 1 North Broadway, Pennsville, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery.
