Ralph McClurd, age 99 of Pennsville, passed away on Saturday February 17, 2024. He was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to Elbert and Maggie Calhoun McClurd. Ralph was a communications Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Normandy and Central Europe during World War II where he fought in the Battle of Normandy. He was in the 90th division and earned a Bronze Star Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. During the war his parents moved to New Jersey and his father went to work at Dupont where they were making gunpowder for the war. After the war Ralph moved to New Jersey and went to work at DuPont Chambers Works as a Lab Technician where he worked for 33 years until he retired in 1984. He also owned and operated McClurd Pontiac for many years until he sold the business in 1986. He then stayed on as a salesman for another 18 years. He loved selling cars. It was like a hobby to him. He worked selling cars until he was 84 years old. Ralph also liked traveling to different parts of the country to attend his annual Army reunions with his wife Norma Jean. He kept in touch with several of his old Army buddies. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital for several years taking patients to the Chapel for Sunday services.
Ralph was predeceased by his loving wife Norma Jean, his parents Elbert and Maggie, his brothers Earl, Roy and Earnest, and his sisters, Bernice, Carrie, and Minnie. He is survived by his loving daughter Donna Greever and her partner Karla Magee and many nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday February 22nd at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
