Carroll Brooks Young, 92, of Mount Laurel, NJ died of sudden complications from Alzheimer's Disease on December 27, 2023.
He was born in Woodbury, NJ in 1931 to Samuel Carroll Young and Dorothy Brooks Young. Carroll attended Westfield High School, where he played football and graduated in 1950. Carroll enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and trained to fly B-25s. After his time in the Air Force, he worked as a machinist and was one of only a few to be selected as a Toolmaker apprentice at Picatinny arsenal in Dover, NJ. He retired as a Modelmaker from AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1990.
Carroll was an avid runner in his 40s and 50s and also took part in numerous Volkmarches. Photography was another passion of Carroll's, entering in photo contests at his work. As a regular blood donor, Carroll was recognized for the gallons of blood he gave over the years. He enjoyed traveling around the United States and admiring God's creation.
Carroll's devotion to his family and church was apparent to all. He served as a Deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church in Mt. Laurel for 33 years. Everyone who knew him found him to be a kind, loving, and God fearing man.
Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM December 30, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville. A private burial will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and first wife of 56 years, Patricia Fisher Young. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Joan Young; loving children, Susan (James) Lutz of Audubon, NJ; son, Douglas (Wendy) Young of Leesburg, VA; and four adoring grandchildren, Rachel Young, Raleigh, NC; Skye Young, Llianelli, UK; Marshall Lutz, Audubon, NJ; and Emily Lutz, Miami, FL. He is also survived by his brothers, R. Nils (Mimi) Young of Atlanta, GA and John Young of Lavonia, GA.
