Phyllis M. Owen, age 85, formerly of Pennsville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Merion Gardens Assisted Living in Carneys Point, NJ. She was born in Carneys Point and was the daughter of the late John Gairns and Anne Engle Gairns. Phyllis was a lifelong Salem County resident. She was preceded in death by her sisters Anne Rowe and Sally McKendrick and brother "Duncan" Gairns. Her brother, Patrick "Tommy" Gairns, and two sisters, Jackie Starn and Mary Lou Motoyoshi, survived her.

She was a graduate of Saint James High School in Penns Grove. She worked as a telephone operator in Penns Grove, NJ, and was a waitress for the Salem Oak Diner in Salem, NJ. Phyllis was active in the Corpus Christi Church "Alter Rosery Society." She was an advent bowler. She was a loving mother and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her first husband, Edward Johnson, and their children, Sharon Johnson (Patrick) of North Royalton, Ohio, Kathleen Jameson (Michael) of Oxford, PA, and David Johnson (Sherri) of Wilmington, DE. There are four grandchildren: Amber Johnson and Darian Johnson and Douglas and Christopher Jameson, and five great-grandchildren, Wesley, Reilly, Paisley & Kinsley, and Aurora.

She was proceeded in death by "Joe" Owen and survived by her stepdaughter Tracy and her step-grandson Drew,

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 19, at the

St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish/Corpus Christi Church, 369 Georgetown Rd.,

Carneys Point, NJ. Friends may call Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ. The burial will be at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
