Joseph Larry Gant, 72, of Pennsville, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on August 2, 2023.
Larry was born on October 24, 1950, to Albert Paul and Emaline Adeline Gant, and was the second youngest of nine brothers and sisters. He was a graduate of Pennsville Memorial High School and met his wife Sharon (née Weston) Gant in 1976.
His children, grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews remember him for his dedication to his family. His coworkers and friends from Silvi Materials, R.E. Pierson Construction Company, and additional South Jersey businesses respect him as a legendary hard worker. He spent the last years of his life trying to break his own record for most hours worked in a week. (The record was 96 hours.)
When Larry wasn't working, he volunteered his time to the Salem County Sportsmen's Club and enjoyed the peace of his home in Pennsville. He reveled in any opportunity to make his loved ones smile, and he treasured road trips to visit family and Mickey Mouse in Florida. His talent for fixing things, from building entire concrete plants to soldering the tiny parts of his youngest child's Game Boy, made the world a better place for everyone who knew him.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Gant and his sister Eleanor Coleman. He is survived by his wife; children, Joseph (Teresa), Kristina (Ken), and Victoria; six grandchildren; and siblings, Pauline Webb, Nancy Watt, William Gant, Louretta Herz, Arthur Gant, and Robert Gant.
He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and coworkers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Monday August 7th at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
