Frederick Preston Morris III
September 8, 1955- April 26, 2023
On April 26th, Frederick P. Morris, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly at the age of 67.
Fred was born in Salem, NJ, and graduated from Penns Grove High School in 1973. It was there that he fell in love with baseball.
He excelled as a pitcher, playing Division I baseball at La Salle University, where he remains their highest professional draft pick in program history. Fred was drafted by the Houston Astros, reaching the Double-A level. He was inducted into the La Salle Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Salem County Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Fred married his high school sweetheart, Maryann. During their 45 years of marriage, they created memories that will be forever cherished. He would frequently tell people their greatest accomplishment was their two children, Danielle and Robert. He cherished his time with his family, particularly his meticulously planned Sunday family dinners where he served as Head Chef.
Prior to his recent retirement, Fred worked as an accountant for several companies including Progresso, Four Star, and Lexis Nexis. In retirement, he filled his days with golf, travel, and spending time with his five beloved grandchildren.
Fred was predeceased by his father, Frederick Preston Jr., and his brother, Bobby. He is survived by his wife, Maryann; his daughter, Danielle (Eric) Hines; son, Robert (Stephanie); grandchildren, Carter, Claire, Davis, Aidan, and Maeve; mother, Gloria Morris; sisters, Kathy (Bruce) Ratliff and Sue (Rick) Bird; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 3rd at the Pennsville Church of the Nazarene, 172 Churchtown Rd. Pennsville, NJ where friends and family may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ
