Laura Stretch Griffin, age 82, of Pennsville, NJ, passed away peacefully at home with her family on March 29th, 2023. She was married to her loving husband, Leroy (Lee) Griffin Jr. (deceased, 2022), for 59 years. Laura is survived by their two children Stephen Griffin (Jennifer) of Newark, DE and Kimberly Hudson (David) of Cullowhee, NC., and three grandchildren Jake Hudson, Sam Hudson, and Brooke Griffin, and brother Wayne Stretch. She is preceded in death by parents Grover and Bernice Stretch, and brother Allan Stretch. Laura was born on August 3rd, 1940 to Grover and Grace (Sparks) Stretch (deceased, 1941). She attended Pennsville Elementary School and graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School (1958). Laura went on to earn an RN from Bryn Mawr School of Nursing (1961), a BSN degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1969), and an MS degree from the University of Delaware (1976). She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Nursing Honor Society (1974 - 2023). Laura had a wonderful 39-year nursing career where she worked in the recovery room, on the med/surg floor, as a Pennsville visiting nurse and an Assistant Professor in the nursing program at the University of Delaware (19 years). She valued helping and comforting others and taught and encouraged her students to do the same. Laura cherished her friendships and she loved being a part of the Pennsville community; she was a volunteer with Pennsville Women's Club, a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, and the Beta Sigma Phi International, Lambda Master Chapter for over 35 years; she was a charter member of the P.O.B. Club (a lifelong group of friends from grammar school), and enjoyed regular gatherings with UD retired nursing faculty. Laura and Lee lived in the home they built together on the Delaware River for almost 60 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events and sharing in the many celebrations of life. She had fun boating the local waterways and taking annual family beach vacations at Cape May, Wildwood, and Captiva, FL. She also loved visiting family in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Laura and Lee had many adventures together, they traveled to the Canadian Rockies, Italy, England, Scotland, Wales, and Alaska. When home, they enjoyed sitting together on the porch taking in the sunsets on the river and watching the ships go by.
