Heaven welcomed another angel the afternoon of August 5, 2022, with the passing of Ella Elizabeth Lake, nee Flickinger. Born in Pennsylvania, Ella, the third eldest of nine children, moved to Deepwater while in elementary school. She graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School in 1947 and then attended the Goldey Beacom College. Ella was married to John (Jack) M. Lake, Jr in 1951. She worked for the DuPont Company until she left to start her family. She later worked for over 20 years at the office of Dr. Charles Gilpatrick in Carneys Point. Ella volunteered at the Salem County Memorial Hospital with the Pastoral Care Program and completed her working years traveling the county with the Commni-Call Program which originated from the Salem County Memorial Hospital. Ella also volunteered for numerous community groups and organizations, including many hours spent with Septemberfest activities. She and Jack were integral figures in its creation. She was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years with her husband, Jack. Ella was an avid walker, enjoyed Wii bowling, rooting for the Phillies, and completing puzzles at Friends Village in Woodstown where she lived for 7 years. She was a professional conversationalist and listener. But her favorite pastime was with her friends and most importantly, her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and in recent years, her great grandchildren, the youngest two being just 1 year old. She spent numerous hours at her many relatives' sports events and was called "Mom mom" by many of the team members. She often said that she has been watching kids in sports for over 60 years. Ella was predeceased by her husband, Jack, her parents, Mary and Robert Flickinger, brothers, Robert, Frank, John and Jimmy, sisters, Bertie, Kathryn, and Nancy. She is survived by her brother, Tom Flickinger (Sharon), her daughter, Jody Lake Sealy (Mark),her son John (Mack) Lake (Donna), six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, August 12, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, where friends may call Thursday evening, August 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and Friday one hour prior to the service.
