Albert John Lemcke
Albert "Al" John Lemcke, age 97 of Pennsville, New Jersey passed away on Thursday March 10, 2022 in Hammonton, New Jersey. He died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. Al was born December 9, 1924 to Paul and Dora (nee Oehm) Lemcke in West New York, NJ. He graduated in 1943 from Memorial High School in Guttenberg, NJ and was inducted into the Navy. He attended the Naval Academy Prep School in Bainbridge, MD. and then Yale University under the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 1948 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Al joined the Dupont Company in February of 1948 and retired in 1986. After exhausting his interests in golf and wood carving, he took a part time position with I.C.I. (Uniquema) in 1988 where he worked a few more years.
Albert married Alice Mae Nurge in December 1948. "Al & Allie" were long time residents of Pennsville, NJ. Al was a charter member of The Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose where he served in numerous positions. He was Chair of the Salem County Bicentennial Celebration (1976), a charter member of the Salem County Historical Society, serving on the Board of Directors and as President. He also served on the Pennsville Planning Board in the 1980's.
Al was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice Mae Lemcke. He is survived by his children, Paul/Linda (nee Plasket) and Martha/Joseph Colache, grandsons Matthew and Christopher, and great-granddaughter Alice.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM on Monday March 21, 2022, at The Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose where friends may call from 11:00 to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Burial of Cremains will follow at the Finn's Point National Cemetery, Pennsville, NJ
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Ambrose Lutheran Church, 443 S. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070.
