Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dennis J. Mahoney (Denny), named after his paternal grandfather, age 71, died unexpectedly at home on February 3, 2022. Dennis was born at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, DE, on March 10, 1950. He was a lifelong, and proud, resident of Mahoneyville, Pennsville, New Jersey. Dennis graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School in 1964, St. James High School, Class of 1968, and Salem Technical Institute in Carney's Point, Class of 1971. Never afraid of demanding work, Dennis started his career at the D. J. Mahoney Store, stocking shelves and cleaning. He then moved on to mowing lawns as a young boy for his aunts, uncles, and other Mahoneyville neighbors. After his father introduced him to the world of tools, machinery, and equipment, Dennis developed a keen interest for all things mechanical. In 1971, was hired as a laborer and inspector by the Salem County Mosquito Control Commission, later known as the Salem County Mosquito Control. Throughout his 40-year career, Dennis served the Commission as a welder, mechanic, heavy equipment operator, working foreman, and general supervisor. In March of 2011, the NJ Mosquito Control Association presented Dennis with an Achievement Award for his service as a General Supervisor, and, in August 2011, the Borough of Elsinboro presented Dennis with a Resolution for his dedicated service. Dennis formally retired from the Salem County Mosquito Commission in August 2011. Dennis' work experience also included stints with J. B Cordrey, Builders, Sam Taylor & Sons, where he forged lifelong friendships, and Marlboro Machine Company. To cherish in Dennis' memory is his beloved and devoted wife/sweetheart of 37 years Catherine (nee Marino), siblings Mary M. Kurtz (Alfred Dec'd), James R. Jr., (Betsy), Kathryn M. (John), Sister-in-Law Sandra Robbins(Van), Brothers-in-Law Salvatore Marino(Debbie), Pressie Marino (Jerry), Robert Ron Marino, Sister-in-Law Shirley Schmidt Marino (Phillip Dec'd), Mahoney/Friebel/Marino Cousins, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces/nephews, all of whom were known as his "favorites." Marino and Providence Francis Marino, brothers-in-law Alfred J. Kurtz, Sr., Joseph Marino and Phillip P. Marino, and niece Nicole Marino.
