Obituary of Floyd A. Wood

Floyd Adelbert Wood, age 98 of Pennsville passed away peacefully at home to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior on August 16, 2021 with loving family by his side. He was born on April 01, 1923 in Deerfield, New Jersey and was the son of the late Earl Wood and Sudie May Jones. He is survived by daughter, Delores Ruth Wood of Elsinboro, New Jersey; sons Floyd Albert Wood and his wife Linda of Dothan, Alabama, and Michael David Wood of Pennsville, NJ; grandchildren, Maleah, Megan, Kelly and Jessica; sisters Beatrice Thomas and Betty Jordon; and brothers Andy, Earl (Jake) and Paul (Smokey). Throughout his entire life Floyd demonstrated bountiful love and support for his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris Ruth Wood; and two sisters Doris and Evelyn. Floyd was a veteran of Word War II. He stormed the beaches of Normandy, France on D-Day and fought in battles and campaigns throughout eleven countries, including Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received decorations and citations including the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European – African-Middle Eastern Ribbon. He had a very active civilian carrier, undertaking a broad array of disciplines, including but not limited to, farming, landscaper, truck driver and heavy equipment operator, bridge builder, boiler operator, and head of school maintenance at Pennsville Public Schools. Floyd loved to hunt, trap and fish the coves and meadows of Salem, County. He made many deer and elk hunting trips out west with his son Albert. He owned and loved horses and other livestock, raising and riding them with his daughter Delores and granddaughters Megan and Maleah. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Carneys Point, NJ.
