Please share a memory of Effie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Effie Kristen Murphy was born in Argentia, Newfoundland in 1967 when her father, Commander Thomas A. Murphy Jr., was stationed in the Navy. She spent her first seven years in the Florida Keys in Marathon where she attended the school that her father was the principal of. The family then moved back to New Jersey for her parents to finish their graduate degrees. She graduated from Salem High School in Salem, New Jersey and went on to Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio for Elementary Education. She was very involved in theatre in high school. She was also the president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, in college. After school, she did the United Methodist Women US-2 program in the Appalachian Mountains. Then, she went on to teach school in Waterbury, Connecticut and the Red Bird Mission School in Beverly, Kentucky. During that time, she also received her Master's Degree. Her mother, Sandra, was a church pastor and Effie was a lifelong United Methodist. Effie was an outgoing person who loved life and people. Her favorite part of being a Mary Kay Consultant was the people. She also loved to sing and was a part of many choirs. Her children were her pride and joy. Despite struggling with Multiple Sclerosis, she continued to live life with everything she had. She is predeceased by her father, Dr. Thomas A. Murphy Jr. She leaves behind her three children: Kelly Coburn, Katie Coburn, and James Coburn; her mother, Sandra; and her brother, Thomas, III and his wife Rosalind.
