Elisabeth Ann Trantham Gallagher October 4, 1937-January 2, 2021 Elisabeth T. Gallagher of Pennsville, NJ passed away peacefully on January 2, 2021. Elisabeth was born in Salem, NJ on October 4, 1937. She is predeceased by her husband James K. Gallagher of 54 years before his passing in 2012, her mother Anna Stafford and father Guy Trantham. Elisabeth is survived by her children, Nancy L. Kowanick and husband, H. Daniel of Pennsville, and James M. Gallagher and fiancée, Dawn Evans of Linwood, NJ. She is also survived by her cherished grandsons, Steven James Szymanski and Jacob Adam Szymanski. Elisabeth will be missed dearly by her sister and best friend, Leah Hawthorne, of Somers Point, NJ. She also leaves behind her nieces Natalie Moore (Tom) Somers Point, NJ and Amanda Cummins of Sebastian, FL, and her adored great nieces, Nicole and Paige Klein of Somers Point, NJ. She also leaves behind a brother in law William Roberts (Maureen) of Naples, FL. and nieces and nephews, Sheryl Emmons (Rob), Daniel Roberts (Mary), and Laurie Cox (Mike) and nephew Billy Roberts (Cindy), predeceased. She also leaves behind her step-grandchildren, Holly Short and Keith Kowanick (Kimberly) of Angier, NC and 6 great grandchildren. Elisabeth worked for DuPont Experimental Station as a secretary for the Engineering Department. After having her first child, she became a homemaker and a very active member of the Pennsville community. Elisabeth loved her church, The Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose, where she taught Vacation Bible School and weekday school. She was involved in the WELCA (The Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose Women's group) Elisabeth was past vice President and for many years was in charge of the Alter Guild. She also handmade and embroidered the baptismal gowns, organized Seder Meals, Funeral Luncheons, and was involved in the Knitters group. She loved the Church Christmas Bazaars where she assisted with the baked goods. Elisabeth assisted with WELCA for fundraising to support local, National, and Worldwide missions. Elisabeth was a Founder and Past President of the "Friends of the Pennsville Public Library" and a pioneer of the "Riverview Readers". She also served on the Board of Trustees at the Pennsville Library for many years. She was also instrumental in the yearly "Friends for the Library February Tea". You can say reading was a passion of hers. Elisabeth was also a member The Women's Club of Pennsville, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and a past member of the Pennsville visiting nurses where she served on the board, and was a member of the Pennsville Historical Society. In her early years she enjoyed monthly "Bridge Club" gatherings with all her friends. We will miss Elisabeth's beautiful smile and her kind and loving spirit. She found beauty in everyday life and in everything she did. A service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose, 443 S. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ. Friends may call from 9-10am, with service at 10am, followed by burial at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose Memorial Fund, 443 S. Broadway, Pennsville, and NJ 08070, in memory of Elisabeth. Please be mindful of all updated COVID regulations during services.
