Obituary of Barry L. Zimmerman

Please share a memory of Barry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barry Lynn Zimmerman, age 71, longtime resident of Pennsville, NJ is now in the loving arms of Jesus. He passed peacefully, on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Einstein Medical Center. Barry was born on June 3, 1949 to Robert and Joan Zimmerman. He was married to Bonnie Gail Prouse for 52 years and loved his wife deeply. Together, they have enjoyed raising their fur babies during his retirement from Dupont Chambers Works. Barry was a loyal husband, father and proud grandfather. He enjoyed taking care of his yard, but even more giving rides to kids and grandkids on his John Deere mower. Barry loved collecting family photos, coins, stamps, books, Hess Trucks, trinkets from his grandkids and paper towels that were folded perfectly into dinner napkins. Barry took any opportunity he could to call attention to himself with his crazy antics hoping to amuse and sometimes, embarrass his wife and children. He loved putting a smile on the faces of all who knew him with his jokes and pranks. Barry was also wonderfully talented. He sang and played the guitar for many years with the "Heaven Bound Singers." He also loved singing with his mom, aunt and sisters while visiting his hometown of Jerome, PA. They spent many hours singing as Barry played Hymns and Southern Gospel music on his guitar. Most importantly, when Barry and Bonnie married, they dedicated their lives to raising children to know and seek a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Barry is survived by his wife, Bonnie Zimmerman. He leaves behind his five children and their spouses including Doug and Joy (Zimmerman) Bollman, William & Amy (Zimmerman) Jones, David & Wendy (Zimmerman) Sorrels, Barry Zimmerman II & Diana (Peirce) Zimmerman and Brent & Bethany (Zimmerman) Staats. Barry and Bonnie have fifteen grandchildren including Jackson & Jacob Bollman, Grace, Annalise, Thomas, Drew, Hope & Aidan Jones, Kayla, Lauralyn & Elaina Sorrels, Barry Zimmerman III and Coleman, Calais & Abigail Staats. Barry is also survived by his mother by marriage, Grace (Hummel) Zimmerman and his five siblings and their families including Thomas & LuAnn (Zimmerman), Dennis & Robin (Zimmerman) Edwards, Jay & Tammy (Zimmerman) Brown, Kimberly (Zimmerman) Ickes and Kevin Zimmerman. Barry was predeceased by his parents, Robert Zimmerman and Donald and Joan Evans. He will be deeply missed on this earth, but we rejoice in the hope of seeing him and those who have gone on before him. Due to the restrictions of COVID, a small service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. The service will be located at the Pennsville Church of the Nazarene with a small graveside service immediately after. If you are planning to attend, please contact the family. We are limited to having 50 people in the sanctuary at one time. We will do everything possible to accommodate you. The church asks that all in attendance wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines. The family asks that in leu of flowers, please consider contributing to immediate medical expenses through the Go Fund Me Page set up by Joy Bollman or sending a donation directly to Bonnie Zimmerman. www.laughreyfuneralhome.com
