John E. Drager Obituary

John E. Drager, age 89 of Pennsville, passed away on Sunday July 24, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County. He was born on the family farm in Logan Township and was the son of the late Emil and Anna Burkel Drager. He attended five years of school in Bridgeport before the family moved to Swedesboro where he completed his education, graduating from Swedesboro High School class of 1940. In High school he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track for all four years. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy, where he spent Twenty two years, retiring in 1962 as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for AVCO Lycoming, later known as Textron in Stratford, Conn., retiring in 1984 with twenty years service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose (nee Farro) who he loved with all his heart and soul from the moment they first met. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Drager of Swedesboro. Predeceased by his sisters, Mary Houvig, Alice Jess, Edith Drager and brother Louis Drager. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Thursday July 28, at the Queen of the Apostles Church, Pennsville. Friends may call Wednesday evening 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville. Burial will be at the St. Josephs Cemetery, Swedesboro.
