Obituary of Corinne Powers

Corinne L. Powers

Corinne L. Powers joined the angels in heaven on September 9, 2017 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She left this earth peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Corinne was born to the late George J. and Laura K. Lafflin in Salem, NJ on April 1, 1934. She grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. She was married to the love of her life, Melvin F. Powers, for 64 years. Together they built a home and raised three children in Pennsville, NJ.

Corinne worked for Bell Telephone/Verizon as a clerical assistant at various locations including Penns Grove, Mount Laurel, Williamstown, and Woodbury, NJ until her retirement in 1996. She was a dedicated employee and made many lasting friendships throughout her career.

Corinne loved spending time with her family and friends. In good weather, her porch was the preferred gathering place. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, crocheting, and visiting with company. Her door was always open. Laughter was a constant, especially when her sisters were together. She was an avid Phillies fan and never missed a game on television. Her home was a warm and welcoming place where everyone felt a sense of belonging. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love in the hearts of all who knew her.

Corinne is survived by her husband, Melvin F. Powers, son Michael M. Powers (Lori), daughter Cindy Madias (Billy), granddaughter Julie Carpenter (John), grandson Michael J. Powers (Christina), and great-granddaughter Gracie Lynn Carpenter: her sisters Joan Emerson, Marilyn Smith (Kenny), and Joyce Conner (Bill), and many nieces and nephews. Corinne is predeceased by her beloved daughter Terry LaRocque, her brother George Lafflin Jr., her sister Jacky Ecret, and her parents.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the compassionate care Corinne received from the staff at Holy Redeemer HomeCare and Hospice during her illness.

A service will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 am at Laughrey Funeral Home in Pennsville where family and friends may call at 10:00 to 11am prior to the service.
