Wayne M. Black, age 90 of Pennsville died Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County. He was born in Penns Grove and was the son of the late John C. and Edith Glenn Black. Wayne was a lifelong Salem County resident. He was employed as a clerical superintendent in the administration building for the DuPont Chambers Works, Deepwater where he retired in 1982 following 36 years service. He served in the Navy during WWII onboard the LST 809 and participated in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He was a former Pennsville Little League coach and umpire, was an avid golfer and bowler. Survived by his two sons, Jeffrey L. Black and his wife Lucy of Pennsville and Stephen E. Black of Carneys Point, 3 grandchildren, Ella Black, Trala Black, and Jeffrey Black, 4 great granddaughters. Predeceased by his wife, Eleanor M. Bacon Black (2000), brothers, Wesley, Kenneth, Walter and Edward. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday Feb. 16, at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
