Obituary of Sally L. Carfiello

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sally Willis Carfiello, a woman known for her strength, compassion and limitless capacity for love, born November 20, 1947, died November 20, 2022. She had just turned 75. Sally was a remarkable and charismatic woman whose huge personality and boundless energy belied her small stature. She was smart as a whip, deeply curious and endlessly faithful to her family and God. Sally was a published author who wrote poems and stories her entire life and a prolific reader who especially loved Corrie ten Boom. She was also incredibly musical - her favorite artists were Peter, Paul & Mary, Donovan and any of the "Oldies" groups and you could count on hearing her sing harmony along with her favorite folk songs or the hymns at Harvest Time church, where she was a member. She could challenge anyone to an intense match of "Name that Tune" and win. For Sally, everything was a song to be sung or yet to be written. She passed her love of music down to her three daughters. Always their biggest cheerleader, Sally was a fixture in the audience of many concerts, band competitions, dance recitals and sports games. She served for many years as a Girl Scout leader and was her family's constant source of support, comfort and strength through good times and bad. A lifelong resident of Pennsville and a graduate of the Pennsville Memorial High School class of 1965, Sally was preceded in death by her parents Walton H. Willis, Sr. and Thelma McLaren Willis, son Michael Walton Carfiello, brothers Howard Willis, Edgar P. Willis and Walton H. Willis, Jr. and sisters Coralea Lively and Thelma Hemminger. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Michael, daughters Rhonda Mesogianes (Christopher) of Pennsville, Angela Russell (John) of Newark, Delaware, and Michele Carfiello (Michael) of Pennsville, grandchildren Thomas (Katelynn) of Carmichael, California; James of Newark, Delaware; and Elizabeth, Matthew and Michael, all of Pennsville, and one great-granddaughter Elyse of Carmichael, California. Her sisters Carrie Thomas and Ruth Ottinger as well as her bonus daughters, Lisa Carfiello and M. Christine Moore, also survive her. A memorial services will be held 7:00 PM on Thursday December 1st at the Laughrey Funeral Home, Pennsville, NJ where friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In accordance with Sally's wishes, please wear bright clothes and be ready to laugh and celebrate her life.
