Q: How did you meet Paul?
A: Paul was my first taste of the United States. He picked me up from Newark Airport and delivered me to the Hilton Homewood Suite in Newark, DE. It was a cold March in 2011. There was snow on the ground. I was 24 years-old and had just left my parents' home in the UK to come and work. I could not have asked for a kindlier, more fatherly figure to receive me. Paul went out of his way to make sure I felt safe in my new surroundings. Before dropping me at my hotel, he drove me around my new home patch, showing me the university on Main St and, it seemed, feeling excited on my behalf. "Oh, you're going to have fun here." He made me feel immediately settled and warmed towards the American people right off the bat. I always felt bad that after such wonderful treatment I did not leave him with a tip, as it is not in the British custom to do so and therefore did not occur to me until I spoke to my mother the next day to tell her all about the wonderful driver I had had, who showed me around and told me to go out and live to my heart's content. I called the car company and got his name but never got around to thanking him properly. Paul left me with such a feeling of positivity and reassurance, even in our briefest of meetings, that I still think back to that drive with immense tenderness: he set the tone for five wonderful years living overseas. Having read some of the tributes to Paul, I can see this was just the man he was. I happened to be looking him up once again, just to reminisce, when I came across his obituary, and just had to send a message of condolence to his family and friends, who I am sure miss him tremendously. Thank you again, Mr Dolbow, for your kindness.
"... and to prove our almost-instinct almost true: what will survive of us is love."

My sincere condolences to the family. Paul was always so kind and inspiring to me, both at church & at Jersey Fitness. He was never too busy to stop to talk, to cheer me on at the gym. His strength and dedication amazed me.
More importantly and special as my pew buddy at Sharptown Methodist, he prayed with me....and for me on so many occasions. I miss you already, Paul. Rest dear friend.
