James L. Cooksey III Obituary
James L. Cooksey, III, age 86 of Pennsville, NJ, passed peacefully with loved ones by his side on April 5, 2026.
Jim was born and raised in Pennsville, and was the son of the late James L. Cooksey, Jr. and Mildred Flitcraft Cooksey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Immediato, his great-granddaughter, Aubreigh Ashfield, and his brothers, William Cooksey, Lynn Cooksey, Thomas Cooksey, and Robert Cooksey.
Jim graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School in 1957. He was employed by DuPont Chambers Works as a pipefitter, ending his 33-year career as a supervisor retiring in 1993. As a young man at the age of 30, Jim attained his proudest accomplishment of building his own home. He was also a talented woodworker creating and building many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends. He coached baseball for his son John's Babe Ruth team. After he retired, Jim fulfilled a long-time dream of earning his private pilot license. He then enjoyed flying the local skies and photographing many hometown landmarks. To keep busy during retirement, Jim made it a point to work with his son on housing properties … refusing to take money, he just enjoyed working with his son. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, and spending winters in Florida.
Jim is survived by his son, John C. Cooksey (April); 5 grandchildren, Charles Ashfield, Anthony Norris (Olivia), Jeffrey Cooksey, Halle Cooksey (Kevin), and Ty Cooksey (Caitlin); 5 great-grandchildren, Axton and Rebel Ashfield, Mila and Giana Norris, and Stella Monterosso; his son-in-law, Carl Immediato; his brother, Ronald Cooksey (Pamela); his sister, Marilyn Eller (Wayne); many cousins, nieces and nephews; his ex-wife Marilyn Dise (Marlin); and his long-time companion, Lois Conover. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 10am to 11am at the Laughrey Funeral Home in Pennsville, NJ. There will be no graveside service.
