In Loving Memory of Charlynn "Lynn" Gilmartin-Thierjung

August 25, 1949 – March 17, 2026

Charlynn Gilmartin-Thierjung, a devoted educator and beloved matriarch, passed away on March 17, 2026, due to complications associated with severe dementia. She was 76 years old.

Known to most as Lynn, she spent the majority of her life in Pennsville, New Jersey, where she left an indelible mark on generations of students. As a teacher at Pennsville Middle and High School, Lynn taught more than just curriculum; she provided her students with the essential "basic life skills"—from the precision of sewing to the warmth of cooking—that they would carry into adulthood.

In 2013, Lynn moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, a transition driven by her greatest joy: her grandchildren. Being close to her family allowed her to transition from "Teacher" to "MomMom" full-time, a role she cherished above all others.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Christine Moore; her first husband, Peter Gilmartin; and her second husband, John Thierjung.

Her memory will be kept alive by her loving family:

• Her sister: Judy Lefkowitz.

• Her children: Daughter Colleen Gilmartin and son Peter Gilmartin (Kellie).

• Her stepdaughters: Jennifer Thierjung, Christine Passalacqua, Caroline Thierjung, and Donna Buday.

• Her legacy: Many beloved grandchildren (Teddy, Danny, and Erin) and step-grandchildren who were the light of her later years.

The family has chosen to honor Lynn's life with a private ceremony.

In recognition of her lifelong commitment to the students of Pennsville, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the PTSA of Pennsville.

"To teach is to touch a life forever." Lynn's lessons remain in the kitchens and homes of the many lives she touched.
