Joseph H. Bowen Obituary

Joseph H. Bowen Obituary

Joseph H. Bowen, of Pennsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, following a courageous, twenty-year battle with cancer. Joe faced every challenge with strength and grace, and those who knew him will always remember his warrior spirit.

Born on January 5, 1954, Joe was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Harris) Bowen. A lifelong resident of Pennsville, he graduated from Pennsville Memorial High School in 1972 and proudly carried his blue-and-gold spirit throughout his life. After high school, he attended Lincoln Technical Institute and later built a long, dedicated career with Atlantic City Electric Company, where he worked for 30 years.

Joe loved his hometown and was known for his knowledge of Pennsville history and Salem County folklore. He enjoyed being near the water, boating, listening to music, going to concerts, playing his guitars, and watching Philadelphia sports. Joe valued his long friendships with his co-workers and his closest friends, the “Pennsville Party Club”. More than anything, Joe cherished the moments he shared with his family – watching his children and grandchildren grow, play sports, and pursue their passions.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ida (née Traini); his daughter Joanna and her husband Matt, his son Nicholas and his wife Lauren; and his four beloved grandchildren - Joseph, Dominic, Addison, and McKenna. He also leaves behind his brother, John and his wife Judy, brothers and sisters-in-law, Debbie and Jim Hazlett, Lorraine and Vernon Aeschliman, Vincent Traini, Michael Traini, and John and Mary Traini, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Laughrey Funeral Home in Pennsville, with funeral services to follow at noon. Burial will take place immediately afterward at St. George’s Episcopal Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family invite contributions in Joe’s memory to the American Cancer Society: https://donate.cancer.org/ or The Tunnel to Towers Foundation: https://t2t.org/.
