Elmer Hill, Jr. Obituary

On the evening of February 3, 2026, Elmer "Elmo" Hill Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at home Surrounded by his beloved, Following a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Salem County New Jersey, He was born in Salem on January 14, 1937, to Elmer and Erma Mangan Hill. He is one of seven brothers and a sister.

And raised on a Poultry farm on lighthouse Road in Pennsville, which is now part of the Supawna Meadows Wildlife Refuge.

He graduated from Salem high school in 1954.

Elmer was a career truck driver that started at the age of 14, when he would drive to the PA coal mines to bring call back to the farm to sell to the Salem County residence. He retired in 1999 from Roadway Express Trucking Co.

In 1959, Elmer was drafted into the United States Army, at the beginning of the Vietnam War time era, and served with the HQ 2nd infantry division, 69th Armor, Tank Battalion.

Elmer was a humble man of a very few words, and he will be remembered for his "Quick Wit", And his compassion and un-Waverly kindness to his family, friends, and neighbors. If he wasn't helping those in need, by taking them to doctors' appointments and shopping. You could find him at home, spoiling his great grandchildren.

Elmer is survived, by wife of 62 years Wanda (Price), Daughter, Dawn Hill-Hoffman (William), granddaughters, Heidi Williams (Craig) Of Pennsville, and Brittany Lahneman (Donald) of Salem. Adopted grandson, Edward VanDyke 3rd, of Warren Maine

Step grandchildren, Ryan Hoffman (Ashley) of West Deptford, and Julia Hoffman of Williamstown. Great grandchildren, Nathan, Ayden, Freya, Claire, Seth, and Liam. A brother, Harry, Hill (Nancy Harris, deceased) and sister-in-law, Lonna Buckelew Hill

Along with his parents, Elmer joins his brothers and sister, as well as their spouses. Marie Hill Landsberger (Earl), James (Carolyn Shepherd), William (Doris Abbott), Andrew (Janet Champion), Robert Sr. (Marion Crist) and Samuel Hill.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Monday February 9th at the Laughrey Funeral home, Pennsville, NJ where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, Pilesgrove, NJ


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pennsville visiting nurses, or the Ronald McDonald House of South Jersey.
