Charlotte "Char Char" Hope McKelvey (Painter) of Pennsville, NJ, peacefully transitioned to the embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 90.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Joseph "Joe" Harold McKelvey of Pennsville, NJ; her children, Joseph Jr. (Lynn), Jonathan (Linda), and Joni (Joseph); her grandchildren, Kathryn, Michael, Jonathan, Jessica, Matthew, and Nicole, and her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, MaKayla, Liam, Bethany, Caitlin, Julia, Elianna, Caleb, Levi, Zoe, and Vera, and countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gladys Painter, her brother, Donald K. Painter and her sister, Joyce Elaine (Painter) Bosco.
Charlotte was born in Culpepper, VA to Joseph Hiden Painter and Gladys Creola Painter on December 27, 1935. She graduated from Salem High School in 1954 and went on to attend Goldey-Beacom College before meeting and marrying Joe in 1957. After the wedding she immediately stepped into the role of Mom for his two sons, Joey and Jonny. Joe and Charlotte soon had a baby girl, Joni Lynn, in 1961 before Charlotte ultimately found employment at DuPont where she worked as a secretary until she retired in 1992 to dedicate her time to caring for her aging parents.
But beyond her academic pursuits, professional accomplishments, and dedication to her family, Charlotte's life was most profoundly defined by her unwavering faith and devoted service to the church. For many years, she stood as a pillar within her church communities—faithful, steadfast, and deeply committed to the work of the Lord. As an elder, alongside Joe, she led with humility and wisdom, offering guidance not only through words, but through the example of a life rooted in prayer. Charlotte had a special calling to teach others how to pray, patiently nurturing the spiritual growth of those around her and reminding all who encountered her of the power of a faithful and consistent walk with God. Her presence in the church was constant, her leadership trusted, and her influence enduring.
