Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Edward Gene Stewart Sr., 90, of Carneys Point NJ. Gene passed away on July 31, 2025 in Christiana Hospital.

Gene is survived by his son Greg Stewart (Madalena) and his daughter Michele Galati, his daughter-in-law Cindy Stewart, his step-daughters Lisa Martin (Tim) and Pamela Kraemer (Billy), his grandchildren Kourtnay Loughin (Matt), Amanda Ventura, Jon Galati, Cheyenne Stewart, Savanah Stewart, Alayna Galati, Scott Kraemer (Karis), Christopher Kraemer, and great-grandchildren Mackenzie Loughin, Ashlynn Loughin, Hunter Loughin, Michael Ventura, Gemma Ventura, and Maeve Kraemer.

Gene is pre-deceased by his wife Mabel E. Stewart (Morris), his parents Robert W. Stewart Sr. and Edna W. Stewart (Wildermuth), his son Edward Gene Stewart Jr., and his brother Robert W. Stewart Jr.

A life-long resident of Salem County, Gene was born and raised in Salem, NJ. Gene attended high school in Salem where he played football, ran track, and was a co-founder of the Rod Knockers hot rod car club. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, boating, and the area around Glacier National Park in Montana. Gene told the best stories of growing up in Salem County or spending his weekends at his grandparents home near Fort Mott with his Aunts.

Gene worked for DuPont Chambers Works as a Machinist, and he carried that machinist's attention to detail and accuracy into everything in his life. Gene also served in the US Army 24th Infantry Division, stationed in Korea in the 1950's.

A Memorial Service will be held at Laughrey's Funeral Home, Pennsville NJ on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10 AM, followed by a family burial service at the Baptist Cemetery, Salem NJ. Family and friends can pay their respects starting at 9:30 AM.
