Doris Jo Hanna Obituary

Beloved wife, mother and friend Doris Jo (Tyas) Hanna, 80, of Pennsville passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025 after a year of deteriorating health.

Doris was born on December 5, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA to Mona (Tyldesley) and Joseph Tyas in Philadelphia, PA. She moved to Salem, NJ as a teen, graduating from Salem High School in 1963. While attending the secretarial school at Goldey-Beacom College, she started her career as a hostess and secretary at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE. During her 29 year career she worked her up through the corporate ranks and retired as a personnel specialist. After retirement she worked part time as a clerk at Intercoastal Title Agency in Salem, NJ.

In 1966 she met the love of her life, Thomas Hanna and they made their home in Pennsville. Together, they raised two kids Patrice (Hanna) Sharkey and Patrick Hanna. The family Fourth of July parties were well known. Doris was a tireless caregiver to her husband until his passing in 1999.

She gave generously of her time, volunteering with Meal on Wheels, the Pennsville Library and other causes. She was always flitting around with her friends to shows, concerts, and community events. She loved Motown, reggae music and action movies. Her salty language was legendary. She was known to drop the "s" word (sugar pops) or the "f" bomb (fudgie wudgie).

Doris was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband. She is survived by her children Patrice (Hanna) Sharkey and her husband Rich of Bridgeton, NJ and Patrick Hanna and his wife Laurel of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Hanna and Julian Sharkey and Lila Hanna. They will miss their G'om. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and her cousin, Eileen DeHart. When you think of Doris, you think of love and happiness.
